Story 1

This story takes place in a city that never sleeps, Goblin City. Four she-goblins-Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda-were living happily without husbands and enjoying their time in the city.

They all had horrible luck keeping a man around due to their extremely large appetite, but that never seemed to bother the group of ladies. They enjoyed partying and working hard!

One day the girls had an amazing idea.

"What if we capture men to marry, and once we get bored with them we can gobble them up for dinner!" exclaimed Carrie, obviously proud of herself for the idea. The she-goblins all agreed that would be the easiest way to entertain gentleman in the all-female city of Goblin City. They waited until the time was right to hatch their plan.

One day, the airport was shut down due to an ice-storm. This was the perfect opportunity for the girls to try their theory out on real men. They hurried to get dressed up and transform themselves into posh city girls before running down to meet the businessmen who would have to get put up in hotels for the night.

"Oh gosh, don't forget to make it look like we have other options here," Charlotte reminded the ladies before they walked down the street. They all used their magic to make the city look like it was full of men running around on business calls and hailing taxi cabs.

The men wandered around, enamored by the charm of the big city and, of course, the lovely women paying them attention. Eventually at a bar that night, the four friends made a plan to convince these men to marry them.

"Oh boys," the girls giggled excitedly, "what if we took this to city hall?" They all proposed an elopement after too many glasses of champagne, to which the men agreed obviously under the women's spell.

Once they were all happily married and settled the women were nervous to nibble on their nuptials, so they went to their storage unit in uptown they all shared (which is where they kept their ex-husbands) to get a midnight snack.

During that time, Miranda's new husband arose. He suddenly realized she was missing. He called all of the girls' husbands to find that none of them were home.

Using their find my friend's location, the men tracked them to a storage unit in uptown where they heard horrible noises. They saw that the women had changed into their true form and were dancing around singing "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper for some reason.

The men, terrified at the sight, ran all the way back to their tiny hotel room and hatched a plan. They called up the airline at an airport outside of the city called "Flying Horse." This airline was known for being discreet about their tickets and getting people where they needed to go.

The nice lady at the front counter hated the girls. She knew they were tricksters and was more than willing to book the nice men a flight far from here.

The men were able to hop aboard before the women realized they were gone and escape in the cover of night. The women were not too torn up about it, but the situation meant they had to go hungry for a few more days.

Author's Note:

Honestly, I was really excited to start writing stories for this class and I thought I would try to do something that was more on the creative route. When I first read the Goblin City story I thought of the idea of sirens or mermaids and how that was very similar, but then I wanted to go more obscure with the story and set it in an early 2000s type movie that promotes girl power and things along that line. I know Sex and the City the friends try to date men with no feelings attached, and I feel like this is a similar idea, except the men are eaten alive.

I shifted the plot a bit by changing a shipwreck to a snow storm which trapped the men in the Goblin City. I changed the fairy to a front desk worker at the airport, and the airline Flying Horse was a reference to the actual flying horse in the story as well.

I thought that this was one of my favorite stories I have written so far and wanted it to be part of my portfolio. I thought I was being clever with changing the characters into a different universe and allowing for more pop culture references to be shown within this story. I think that the idea of making these goblins modern normal women and having them use the men in a different way than the original characters do in Sex and the City is funny to me, and I felt like it was a fun way of expressing the story of the original Goblin City.
